Dr Nicola Zammit B.Ch.D , MFDS (Lon)

Over the years Dr Zammit developed a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and is currently reading for an MSc in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry with the University of Manchester. Nicola is originally from the Mediterranean island of Malta where she qualified as a dentist in 2004. After working in a specialist private hospital for two years she left the country in order to further her postgraduate education in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Sheffield ,UK.
In 2007 Nicola passed her London MFDS examinations and is now a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In the same year she moved to Ireland to take up a position of Senior House Officer in Trinity College Dublin Dental School and Hospital and stayed on working as a Clinical Supervisor attaining more experience in the various fields of dentistry.
During the four years she worked in various hospitals, Nicola worked alongside world-leaders in different fields of dentistry and this has equipped her with a great set of skills and experience.
Over the past five years working in three private practices in Dublin, Nicola continued to strengthen these skills further. In January 2012 she was awarded a certificate in implant dentistry by the Irish Institute of Primary Health Care and the Northumberland Institute of Oral Medicine. She now dedicates all her time to private practice showing a special interest in oral surgery, aesthetic dentistry as well as treating nervous patients with a more relaxed approach.
Having worked in children’s hospitals both in Ireland (Crumlin Children’s Hospital) and the UK (Sheffield Children’s Hospital), Nicola is highly experienced in dealing with children as well as nervous patients.
She still works very closely with experts in the different specialties to ensure her patients get the best possible service and level of treatment.
Nicola has been living in Malahide for the last six years and in her free time enjoys playing tennis and attending practical philosophy classes. She is also on the committee of the metropolitan branch as well as the Patient Quality and Safety committees of the Irish dental Association and is highly involved in organising continuous professional education for Irish dentists. Dr Zammit is currently reading for an MSc in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry with the University of Manchester. She maintains a part time teaching position as a clinical supervisor in Advanced Restorative Dentistry at the Dublin Dental University and Hospital.
Dr. Nicolas Bezzina B.Ch.D, MFDS, PGDip (Conscious Sedation)
Dr Nicolas Bezzina qualified as a dentist in 2004 from the University of Malta. He subsequently worked for two years in a paediatric dental clinic before moving to the UK in 2006. Whilst working as a senior house officer in maxillo-facial surgery at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, he was awarded membership in the Faculty of Dental Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
In 2007, Dr Bezzina joined a specialist sedation practice in Luton, England. During this time he broadened his experience in treating nervous and anxious patients including patients with special needs.
Keen on continuing to deliver best practice care to his patients he pursued a further post-graduate degree at King’s College London. In 2013 he passed with distinction the Diploma in Conscious Sedation.
He remains involved in expanding the evidence for treating patients under sedation and is continuing research in this field.
Dr Bezzina is offering dental treatment under conscious sedation for patients who are unable to tolerate dental work using local anaesthetic alone, have a strong gag reflex or choose to have intravenous sedation for uncomfortable procedures such as extractions, placement of implants or root canal treatment.
Dr Helen-Marie Lane MFDS
Associate Dental Surgeon
DR Lane graduated with honours in 2011 at University College in Cork, where she was awarded with title college Scholar, due to her academic achievements in University Examinations. Afterwards, Dr Lane continued gaining more experience by training in Scotland, namely Vocational Training, working as an Associate in general dental practice and as a Senior House Officer in the Glasgow Dental Hospital. Her main interests are endodontics, prosthodontics and periodontal treatments. In her free time, Dr Lane enjoys travelling, she has backpacked extensively through Europe, North America, Nepal and Canada. She is a keen reader and has interest in healthy lifestyle
Dr Ibrahim Hussain BDS, MFDS.RCSEd, MJDF.RCSEng, M.Med.Sci Implantology, Dental Surgeon
While furthering his clinical skills in the USA, Ibrahim developed a particular interest in cosmetic and implant dentistry. He was awarded a Masters in Implantology from the University of Sheffield and his published research is in the field of bone grafting. He has passed examination at The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is also a member by examination of both the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and in London. He has been performing much of his dentistry under a microscope for 10 years and also has a special interest in dermal filler and botulinum toxin treatment, for which he is a clinical teacher at the University of Central Lancashire. Dr Hussain lectures post graduate dentists internationally and supervises practical placement of dental implants on a number of internationally renowned implantology courses. He has authored publications in this field. He is now accepting referrals for implant and aesthetic dentistry.
Dr Margarete McGuigan BDS, DRDP, MSc (Restorative Dental Practice)
Associate Dental Surgeon
Dr McGuigan graduated from Queen’s University Belfast and after completing vocational training moved to work in private practice in London. While there, she decided to advance her prosthodontic skills by completing a diploma in Restorative Practice at the Eastman Dental Institute which she passed with distinction. Thereafter she completed a Master’s degree in Restorative Dentistry (with Distinction) which focused on endodontics (root canal treatment) and aesthetic dentistry.
In conjunction with advancing her dental skills/qualifications she has maintained an interest in teaching and research. Margarete worked as a clinical teacher in Guy’s Dental Hospital in London for five years, supervising undergraduate restorative dentistry sessions and training students in radiology techniques and interpretation. Currently she works part-time in Dublin Dental University Hospital teaching pre-clinical and clinical skills to dental undergraduate students as well as qualified dentists.
In conjunction with general continuing professional development courses, most recent advanced courses attended have been in the area of Endodontics (Train the Trainer’ in Switzerland) a subject in which Dr McGuigan has published several papers in the British Dental Journal
Paula Lyons RDH
Paula started her career in the dental profession in Tipperary working & trained as a dental nurse. In 2001 she graduated from UCC and Cork Dental Hospital with 1st class honours in dental hygiene. She has worked as a dental hygienist in Dublin for the last 10 years and she continues to enrich her education with regular training courses in maintenance and treatment of periodontal health.
Paula works on an individual oral hygiene regime for our patients assessing their gums health, risks and home care habits thus helping them maintain healthy gums and teeth.
Elaine Mooney BSc RDH
Elaine graduated from UCD with a Bachelor of Science degree. Having worked as a dental nurse for 4 years she returned to college full time to complete her diploma in Dental Hygiene graduating from the Dublin Dental Hospital in 2000. She has worked in private practice since this time, specialising in treating oral diseases. She regularly updated her knowledge and skills as part of continuing professional development. In her spare time she plays tennis at club level and takes part in 5k fun runs.
Philomena joined Ivory Dental Care team in August 2014. She graduated in 1977, and has been working as dental nurse ever since, apart from 5 years she took off to raise her children. During that time, she worked 2/4 weeks per year as locum to keep up her registration. Philomena has worked in Ireland both in private practices and Eastern Health board dental clinics. In 1993, she was a guest at the International Dental Conference in San Francisco to represent the Irish Dental nurses. Philomena spent over ten years as both committee member as well as treasurer of the IDNA (Irish Dental Nurse Association). She also gained surgical assistant experience for theatre work in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary Hospital Scotland, plus St. Michaels Hospital Dublin. During 2006 to 2011, Philomena was working in Brussels in a specialist practice as theatre assistant. Since 2012 she has been working in Ashbourne where she met Dr. Zammit and now joined Ivory Dental Care Team.
Amy joined our practice in November 2014 and is our newest member of team. Having graduated from Marino College of further education with an award NEDBN (UK) Irish Diploma in Dental Nursing. As part of her training, she completed a two year work placement in a private practice and immediately upon graduation she was employed in a busy practice on the Dublin docklands before moving to Ivory Dental Care where she was quickly integrated into the team. She has plans to further develop her skills as a dental nurse and intends to undergo a post grad. Diploma in radiation, oral surgery and orthodontics in the upcoming years.
Laoise joined our team in September 2015. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin, Diploma in Dental Nursing with Distinction in June 2015. During her two year course Laoise trained daily in the Dublin Dental Hospital. She also spent several weeks in a busy Private Practice and the HSE as part of her training. During her studies in the Dublin Dental Hospital, she won an award for best Oral Health Promotion presentation. Laoise hopes to further her studies in Orthodontic Therapy in the future.
Linda joined Ivory Dental Care team in March 2014. She is responsible for reception and booking in patients. After leaving secondary school at the age of seventeen Linda began working in a large retail store (Dunnes Stores) gaining experience in customer service. After three years she was promoted to the head office in Stephens Street, gaining experience in finance, shipping, ordering stock and customer service. In 2001 Linda joined the Dublin Examining Board, this company produces and corrects the junior and leaving cert mock exam papers. Her duties included general office administration, dealing with phone queries, processing and accounting for all cheques and cash. In 2005 Linda took a career break to care for her three children. She has a keen interest in keeping fit (walking/running) and enjoys the theatre and going to the cinema.
Dental Receptionist and Administrator
Lois joined Ivory Dental team in September 2015 on reception. Lois, originally from Scotland, graduated from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh with a BA (Hons) in Business. She has over ten years’ experience in media communications working for the architects and designers, Foster and Partners in London and Hong Kong. Her responsibilities included the organisation and preparation of publicity material for the media in the UK and abroad. In 1996 she was transferred to the Hong Kong office for three years to coordinate the media communications for one of the firm’s largest projects, Hong Kong’s new airport on Lantau Island. She returned to the London office and in 2002 moved to Ireland with her husband and family. Since living in Ireland Lois has enjoyed bringing up her family of three children, and has worked as a freelance wedding florist and in retail sales.
